The discernment team digs into the scriptures and into the issues, building towards a clear path forward. It ends with writing a statement.
Engage the congregation in the process. This is neither easy nor safe, but it is still essential.
Stage 3 focuses on the discernment team. There’s a lot more to discernment than handing out a book and discussing it.
Stage 2 is about engaging the church board. If you don’t do this well, you could lose people you don’t need to, create confusion, or end up looking like a bully.
